Tall Order: 2022 Reading Plans

Happy New Year!

I am kind of wary of setting up reading plans because I never manage to live up to them. But what’s January without a good dose of (over) ambitious and visionary thinking, eh? Let’s see, let’s see .…

The reading challenge that most stood out for me is 2022 Adult SFF Backlist Books Challenge, which is hosted at Bookish Valhalla. They have offered some cool monthly prompts to make your TBR choices easier, and offered some reading suggestions as well. I haven’t yet decided each month’s book (do NOT want to over-plan!), but it seems to be low-pressure and fun. See if this challenge catches your eye as well.

The other thing I have in mind is author backlist catching up. I have a few favorite authors in mind whose series/ works I’d like to finish reading:

I also saw Introverted Reader hosting the 2022 Books in Translation Reading Challenge. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, esp. since I last discovered that there were so many translated-to-English SFF books that I really wanted to read.

Oh well. You know what they said about the best laid plans of mice and men. I hope 2022 fares better for me than 2021 — and hope so for you too. What are your 2022 reading plans? Are you signing up for new challenges? Let me know!

I’ve only ever read Cat and Mouse, and watched Green for Danger. Both impressed me a lot — and I have you to thank for both recs. I hope to read the rest as well from your list!

I’m basically the same way when it comes to reading plans … I make a goal on Goodreads but that’s about it. Some challenges sound fun, but my ‘reading mood’ changes too often to settle on anything.

However, I love the idea of catching up on favorite authors in my backlist. I have a plan to get through the Discworld books … eventually. I’m not too far ahead of you! I’ve read three.

I am going to cheer for you and your Reading Challenges! I’ve decided to just list 100 books on Goodreads and see where I end up!

I still need to figure out how to use my blog template with reading challenges and maybe then I’ll decide to join more.

Books in translation – try a book that was originally published in Afrikaans and let me know. Fever by Deon Meyer might be a good suggestion!

Oh, I think I remember you recommending Fever before. I think I was hesitant about the pandemic link though but I’ll give it a shot. And if you could also recommend any fantasy book translated from Afrikaans, that would be a great help!

I got another of Christianna Brand’s Nurse Matilda books to read but not tried any of her books aimed at older readers. Do give Pratchett a go — I recommend his Tiffany Aching novels as a way in, but do read them in order! And McKillip is an author I fancy reading more of, as I’ve only read her Eld novel and the Riddle Master trilogy. Good luck with what you get to this year!

Looking forward to seeing you in the Books in Translation challenge.
I’m currently finally reading The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. Awesome way to begin the challenge, as I’m sure you know.
I was disappointed by vol 1 by Sayers (but I’m picky!), though I’ll give it another chance with vol 2

I hope you enjoy your reading challenges! I’m sticking mostly to ones I can track on The StoryGraph, but one of the ones I really like there is the Reading Randomizer, which helps you read down your TBR by giving you prompts to pick random books from your TBR (using different sort orders, or different target numbers, for example).

Lois McMaster Bujold’s Penric & Desdemona Series Is a big hit with my buddy reading group, but I haven‘t joined in yet.

I read all Wimsey books as a late teenager and loved them to pieces. Murder Must Advertise and Busman‘s Honeymoon are my favourites. Oh, and the Nine Tailors. Well, all of them, really.

Good luck with all your reading goals! I’m only signing up for two reading challenges this year…one to work on my stack of TBR books, and a classics challenge. Wish me luck. 🙂

These are great reading challenges! I’m trying not to join too many because I tend to start of with grand plans but sort of fizzle out about keeping up. Good luck with your goals and most of all hope you have great reads!

I’m hoping to read more since last year was such a down year for me reading- wise. Good luck with these! I like the sound of that first challenge particularly. :)P

Welcome to the Books in Translation challenge! I hope you enjoy the books you choose!

I decided I was going to go easier on the challenges this year–so I cut back from 8 to 7! 😀 One of them is just a resolution challenge, not a reading challenge though. And I should have far fewer books to track than I did last year.

I’ll be curious to see where you choose to enter Disc World. I’ve read a handful of books and liked them but there are so many story arcs and so many recommendations about where to start that I get overwhelmed and give up. I need to just choose a path and go with it.

And you absolutely need to read Good Omens as well. I’ve loved it for a long time! I loved the series too.

Good luck!

Catching up on backlists for fave authors is a great goal: it’s specific without being so specific that it feels like a restraint…you can just choose a different author to read if you’re feeling cornered by your own plans. LoL
