This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is summer-y book covers. Instead, I am just going with some fantastic book cover art that recently caught my eye. It’s great to discover new artists and the unique ways in which they portray their subject matter.
Full heads-up: this is an image heavy post (and none of the art is mine)!
[1] Kinuko Y. Craft
Where might you have seen her work? Book cover art for Patricia McKillip’s fantasy books.
[2] Michael Whelan
Thanks to Greg for pointing out Whelan as the artist for the Michael Moorcock books!
[3] John Jude Palencar
Honestly, his work has been on the covers of many SFF masterpieces.
[4] Arthur Rackham
Could anybody else illustrate fairytales and children’s books half as well these days?
[5] Brom
Art not for the faint-hearted: much horror and gothic, but absolutely mindblowing.
[6] Julie Dillon
Her artwork is a whole range, each quite different in concept and style.
[7] Paul Zelinsky
Loved his Rennaisance period artwork from the Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin retellings. Did you read these as a kid?
[8] John Harris
There’s something very striking about his space opera cover art.
[9] Anato Finnstark
More posters than books that I could find, but just love the landscapes in his work.
[10] Rovina Cai
Dark fantasy art of the very fey type. Is this charcoal art? Wish I knew more about the style and medium!
So, there’s my list for book cover art. Any other book cover artists that you are a fan of? Let’s add to each other’s rec lists!

Adore so many of these covers and a great celebration of the artists who made them! Stunning post!
Hope your summer is fantastic and you get a chance to relax, unwind and, of course, read! This is my list of summery covers!
I love these covers – especially from John Jude Palencar, Brom, Paul Zelinski, Ravina Cai, all new to me, and Arthur Rackham, who is a great favourite of mine.
I love these covers. Some really interesting books here 🙂
They’re all lovely!

I have a lot of picture book favorites including Paul Zelinsky. Trina Schart Hyman, Robert McCloskey, and Chris Van Allsburg are some of my other favorites.
Such beautiful covers! So detailed. I do like prompts where we get to look at book covers more closely.
Have a great week!

Stunning works of art! I’ve never thought about researching the artists for the books I enjoy.

All of these covers are amazing, and so beautiful. I especially love the Patricia McKillip cover done by Kinuko Craft. But then I love all of her artwork. 🙂
These are all great! I’ve always loved Patricia McKillip’s covers, but I don’t think I’ve looked up the artist before. Michael Whelan has done a lot of the classic SFF book covers I’ve enjoyed, and Rovina Cai’s interior illustrations on the Wayward Children books are stunning.
Other than these, Maurizio Manzieri’s book covers are stunning. Examples include a lot of Aliette de Bodard’s space operas, such as The Tea Master and the Detective, and Seven of Infinities.

Ah so lovely to take the time to focus on book cover artists! They do such a great job 🙂

Wow, these all do look fantastic indeed!
Ooh Whelan! And thanks for the shout out! 🙂 I’ve always loved that cover. The Onion Girl cover is great, and Brom’s stuff is always wild,
Rovina’s art is awesome too.
You hit two of my favorites, right off the bat–Kinuko Craft and John Jude Palencar. I have a sort of coffee table book of Palencar’s work. I’m most familiar with Craft from Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier.
I read The Annotated Classic Fairy Tales edited by Maria Tatar fairly recently (I think after you reviewed it?). I loved the artists and artwork she chose, including Rackham, but wish it was easier to see in the book. One of my very favorites was Edmund Dulac. I wrote down a whole list of my favorites from that book in my journal.
I’ve only read The Child Thief by Brom but you described his style perfectly.
So many great covers! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! I love your twist on this week’s topic, especially since you’ve compiled a list of so many gorgeous covers!
Excellent covers and an unusual premise for gathering them – to fit YOUR idea of summer. Thanks for the visit.
Patricia McKillip’s covers are gorgeous! Great list and thanks for visiting my TTT! 🙂
Really awesome covers! I love what you chose to post for this TTT!
These are lovely! I have always been tempted by Patricia McKillip’s books for that reason but I think the only one I read was The House on Parchment Street which was very good.
I love this topic! Stormbringer really stuck out to me!! Wow, these are all so gorgeous! Great list
Thanks for commenting on my post. Sorry it has taken me a little bit to get back to you. I’ve been exhausted from moving and unpacking. I’m sure you understand.
Beautiful covers! I especially love the Julie Dillon two. Thanks for sharing. 😀
Quite a few of your covers made me thing of the Pre-Raphaelites. I love their paintings…
I don’t think I’ve heard of any of these, but we love featuring some fun or pretty art, and of course, just book covers in general. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland on this week. Apologies it took me this long to visit here.
Ooo… aren’t they all sublime?? But I am a HUGE fan of Rackham’s work. I was once allowed to borrow a copy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream filled with illustrations by Arthur Rackham – which I absolutely loved… Thank you for sharing!
Some stunning covers here. I love the McKillip covers and I think Whelan is one of my favourites – I love the covers for Sanderson’s Way of Kings.
