Poetry by Alfred Kreymborg

It’s time for Poetry Friday! And here’s Kreymborg proposing a test for what makes a true “poem”:

Ladislaw the critic
is five feet six inches high,

Which means
that his eyes
are five feet two inches
from the ground,

which means,
if you read him your poem,
and his eyes lift to five feet
and a trifle more than two inches,
what you have done
is Poetryโ€”

Should his eyes remain
at five feet two inches,
you have perpetrated prose,

And do his eyes stoop
โ€”which Heaven forbid!โ€”
the least trifle below
five feet two inches,
you
are an unspeakable adjective.

Wha ha ha!! This made my day!!!! Excellent.

Hope you are well! Life has been a bit hectic on my side, but it will calm down in a week or so.

Take care of yourself!!

PS: to answer your question about adopting cats – believe it or not, only Elza was officially adopted…!! My eldest was the off-spring of another cat I had about 12 years ago. Stinkie was literally picked up in a bush, Kit was my aunt who passed away’s, cat. So only little Elza comes with “adoption papers”.

Elza Reads

So, that’s 4 of them? A whole cuddlesome! I didn’t really know what term to use, so went with “adopted”. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have never had a pet myself, but I hope to bring one home some day.
