November seems to be SciFi Reading Month. So for this week’s Top Ten TuesdayΒ meme hosted by Jana over atΒ That Artsy Reader Girl, I’m sharing a list of top 10 scifi books from my TBR pile (not book quotes). I’d planned to work on my science fiction reading muscle this year, and who knows? Still have 2 more months for end of 2021, you know.
I’m taking inspiration from the prompts for SciFiMonth 2021 challenge hosted by Imyril and Dear Geek Place, particularly the Book Bingo.
1] Rated fresh (2+ years old)
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton was published in 2019, and its sequel Feral Creatures was published this year. Counts, right?
2] Award winner / Weβve come a long way baby
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is a bit slow on the plot but intense on inter-species bonding.
3] Debut
Axiomβs End by Lindsay Ellis, because I love cross-cultural tales across the Universe. Plus, the sequel came out this year.
4] Sweet dreams (cryosleep)
Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson (one of the stalwarts of science fiction). Now, if only his books were not door stoppers…
5] Modern classic (10+ years old) / Well matured (30+ years old)
I’ll have to choose between Connie Willis’s Doomsday Book (1992) and Julian May’s The Many-Colored Land (1981), both involving time travel.
6] Stand-alone
I’m going with the locked room mystery in outerspace: Dead Space by Kali Wallace.
7] International/ Asian author (non US/UK) + SF in Translation
The audiobook for Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin (and translated by Ken Liu) has been sitting on my shelf since ages.
8] Finish a series
Paradox series by Rachel Bach was all the rage when it first published, and I’m still eyeing it on my TBR.
9] Indie or self-published work
I think that Shadow Run by Michael Miller and AdriAnne Strickland would qualify.
10] Artificially yours (AI / Digital consciousness) – Also, Novella
Yes, I’ve still not read Murderbot Diaries series by Martha Wells. Need to fix that!
Do you read science fiction? Which of these books have you read or would like to read? Are you participating in this challenge? Let’s discuss!

If only I could do this challenge in a month that was not quite so busy…November is Nonfiction November for me, and that doesn’t really allow me to fit in any scifi. I love this challenge, though, and I may do it in December.
I recommend Doomsday Book and Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.
Oh, yes! There are a lot of cool reading challenges this month. There’s Novellas in November, and I think a Margaret Atwood challenge too… I hope you’ll enjoy your non-fic reading this November! π
I havenβt been doing much for #ScifiMonth. Thanks for the reminder to jump into it!

Nice, see you around for the SciFi reading challenge!
Adding some of these to my tbr!
I don’t read that much sci-fi, but I read The Long Way to A Small and Angry Planet this year and loved it. Hope you’ll enjoy all of these!
Thank you, hoping to clear off some old scifi TBR books this year!
I really need to get onto Becky Chambers’ books because I keep hearing wonderful things about it. Good to know that I can expect it to be slower-paced so I’ll make sure I’m in the right mood for it π I absolutely LOVE Murderbot and binged the whole series this year. They’re awesome!
That’s good to know about Murderbot! And yeah, pace is a bit of a problem with Long Way…
Iβve heard great things about the Murderbot Diaries series.

Now why didn’t I think of using the Bingo card to do a list? Excellent. And love your choices too, having found a couple of new authors/titles to add to my wish list. Just order the Rachel Back series. π
Super! Dead Space, Rachel Bach’s series, and Murderbot (in that order) are my priority reads from this list. π
Doomsday Book was a really fascinating read for me. And at least the Murderbot Diaries are (mostly) novellas, so the length can balance out the doorstoppers on your list!

Exactly! That’s one additional reason to read Murderbot series — the novella style. π
I donβt read a lot of sci-fi, but some of these look really good!
I went off-topic this week: https://fiftytwo.blog/2021/11/09/ttt-books-you-recommend-the-most/
Happy TTT!
Lori
Thank you, I’m hoping I’ll read at least *one* of these!
I hope you enjoy these reads! They look like a lot of fun.
I don’t usually read much science-fiction, but these sound pretty intriguing! I hope you enjoy them all!
Haha, don’t read much scifi myself too, but hope to change that just a little bit this year!
I’ve heard good things about Dead Space, and even better things about the Murderbot Diaries. Happy Sci-Fi Reading! π
Thank you! Hope my reading focus will be up to the task!
The Long Way is such a favorite of mine. I really need to catch up on the Murderbot books too…
I REALLY liked dead Space- just read it.
Thanks for reminding me too about Shadow Run- that’s another one I wanted to read.
Good to know that you loved Dead Space! I think we’ve both had it on our TBRs for a while — I think I’ll start off with that one then.
I’ll be curious to what you think of Dead Space when you finish…
Oh and I just re- read my comment and I hope “just read it” didn’t come off bossy! Ha I meant o say I had just read it but as usual it came out garbled π
Haha, I knew what you meant the first time around. No worries at all, Greg!
I hope you enjoy your reads when you get the opportunity.

What an interesting challenge. I’m not much into sci-fi but some of your books sound fascinating.

Thanks for visiting my TTT which shows readers on the covers.
I loved The Long Way and the Murderbot ones I’ve read. The Three Body Problem series is really interesting, but takes more work. I need to add a couple of the others you mentioned to my to-read list.
Yep, I find Three Body Problem intimidating too but it sounds so fascinating…
Great list. I haven’t read the Murderbot books yet but I have bought the first so hopefully…
And I still haven’t read the Doomsday Book but I fully intend to do so. Eventually. *headdesk*
Lynn π
Doomsday Book is high on my list too (as long as it is not too bleak).
Oh yes, Iβve had The Three-Body Problem on my shelf for ages as wellβ¦ One of these days! And I really have to continue with Becky Chambers.
You have to read Murderbot, it is so good! Have you read Leckieβs Imperial Radch trilogy? Not novellas thoughβ¦
Yes, we’ve chatted about Imperial Radch before, both of us loved the trilogy π
How’s your sci-fi reading going this month? I hope you are reading lots of great stuff. I need to take note of these. I have read Connie Willis before and really enjoyed “To Say Nothing of the Dog” but definitely want to read more by her.
I’m just catching up online…how did you do with your reading plans for November? I’ve read a few of these and enjoyed them quite a bit, but I hope to read even more SF/FAN next year; I’ve gathered up some tempting candidates.
It’s January already and I’m only just replying — sorry for the delay! Let’s just say my reading plans were a disaster. Let’s hope 2022 goes better. π
I will actually read some of these!! I am planning on planning (yea..) a year of blogging over the December holidays. And I plan to add Sci-Fi November for a change. Because I never read Sci-fi…! Might be a good challenge!
I miss you Lex!! Are you okay??
Lots of Love,
Elza Reads
Hello and sorry for the late reply! Life’s been a whirlwind lately, still trying to log back in. See you around again soon! π
Murderbot is so good! I hope you enjoy it when you get round to it!
awesome list!
I’m currently reading The Three-Body Problem – picked for me by my library staff, for their winter reading challenge! And hopefully, I will soon discover Martha Wells!
Early January, I will pick my favorite scifi of the year!
I keep telling myself to read Three Body Problem but my brain just shies away from anything remotely heavy reading. Phew. Think that’s not a problem with Martha Wells!
