Mythothon Round 4

I found a fun reading challenge that starts off today, Mythothon Round 4, which is all about Arthurian adventures! It sounds wonderful, even if a bit complicated, so see if you want to give it a try. I hope I’m not too late in telling you about it!

Mythothon

I’m not sure how much of the required reading I’ll actually do myself. But it got me thinking, and I do think Mythothon makes for an awesome book tag for any existing TBR.

Three Magicians: Choosing a Team

Morgan le Fay — Read a story about a villainous, misunderstood or morally grey character.
A Conspiracy of Truths by Alexandra Rowland. There’s a storyteller who may or may not be telling the truth.

Merlin — Read a book with a witch or wizard.
Water Witch by Connie Willis. A woman pretends to be a powerful witch.

Nimue, the Lady of the Lake — Read a book set at sea.
To Ride Hell’s Chasm by Janny Wurtz. The high seas are fertile grounds for adventures.

(You have to choose 1 of the 3 above, but you can say I went overboard.)

The Quest: Prompts to save Camelot

Gather together King Arthur and whichever knights of the Round Table you choose from the 12 prompts around the outer circle.

King Arthur — Read a book featuring royalty.
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso. A queen gets stranded in a dangerous land …

Sir Lancelot (Arthur’s greatest companion) — Read a book from a favourite author.
The Prize in the Game by Jo Walton. Walton is a favorite author.

Sir Gawain (Known as the Green Knight) — Read a book with the colour green on the cover or in the title.
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley.

Sir Percival (the original hero in the quest for the Grail) — Read a book with a shiny cover.
A Memory called Empire by Arkady Martine.

Sir Bors (Arthur’s successor) — Read a sequel.
Leave it to Psmith by P.G. Wodehouse (It’s Book No. 4).

Sir Lamorak (one of the best knights but overlooked in the chivalric romance genre) — Read a book you think is under-hyped.
Thorn by Intisar Khanani (which I reviewed recently).

Sir Kay (Arthur’s foster brother) — Read a book with a significant sibling relationship.
Winter Rose by Patricia McKillip. Two sisters meet a Tam Lin-like figure, and disaster comes knocking.

Sir Gareth (the youngest knight) — Read a recent addition to your TBR.
The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams. Or, The 7 and 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.

Sir Bedivere (returns Excalibur to Nimue) — Read a book with something pointy on the cover.
The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie (has a door knocker).

Sir Galahad (“the most perfect of all knights”) — Read a book with a title that starts with a “G”.
Goblin Moon by Teresa Edgerton.

Sir Tristan (falls in love with Isolde) — Read a book with a romance that should be legendary.
Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, or so I’ve heard.

Sir Gaheris (“the least well spoken of all his peers”) — Listen to an audiobook or read part of a story aloud.
Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Finally, saving Camelot!

Read a book set in a place you’ve never visited.
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke.

So, there you go. 16 varied prompts, and a new way to tackle your TBR!

I really like this – and do you have a time limit in which to complete your quest? Or is this fairly relaxed? Oh, wait, I’m assuming by the end of april given the header?
Lynn 😀

I really loved Thorn by Intisar Khanani. I read it years ago when it was still self-published.

Ooh this looks fun. Janny Wurts caught my eye as I’ve mulled her books a few times. I love her maps, which might sound funny, but her world maps have a style I just really like.

Really? I had no idea about the maps, as I have never tried Wurts’ work before — but To Ride Hell’s Chasm came highly recommended from a lot of bloggers.

I would totally fail at this challenge as this isn’t really my genre but I have to say that is super creative! Almost makes me want to join 🙂 Hope you enjoy this a lot!

Thorn <3 I love that book so much along Intisar as well haha. I'm doing Mythothon this month and I doubt I'll complete all the prompts. But hey it is about the fun, right? 😉

I am glad you put it that way. I find that as soon as I sign up for a challenge, I end up not following through because the pressure! But as you said, it’s about having fun, must remember that!
